We caught up with Yuki during a long-awaited downpour in draught-stricken California last week to find out what he's up to for the holidays.
Yuki the Buddhist reported: "We don't celebrate this holiday so big." Mini-Christmas tree, small present exchange, fish for dinner.
Yuki plans to travel to Japan early in the New Year. He'll visit with friends and family and connect with his old friend, Tadao Arimoto, the Pittsburgh-based wood artist who held workshops in Rapid City this summer and will be traveling to Japan at the same time.
In preparation for carving at Main Street Square next summer, Yuki said he's working on fitting his design to the granite forms and reading an autobiography by Luther Standing Bear.
All of us at The Sculpture Project wish you very happy holidays and all the best for 2015!
